- Republican annual competition of students of high schools for the best yearly essay, degree and research work in the field of intellectual property for 2007-2008
For participation in competition 18 applications have acted.
The decision of the competitive commission from 07.10.2008:
1. In a nomination – «Best creative work in the field of the practical decision of problems of intellectual property» awarded 1 place with the Diploma of 1-st degree and the monetary premium at a rate of 150 thousand sum to Ms. Jugaj E.A., master of 1 course of the Tashkent State Juridical Institute for research work «Trademark and establishment of its similarity to the declared designations».
2. In a nomination – «Best creative work in the field of theoretical researches of problems of intellectual property» to not award prize-winning places because of absence of works in this nomination.

- Round Table on a theme «Questions of perfection of the civil legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan »
On September 25th, 2008 in conference hall of the Ministry of Justice the Round Table on a theme «Questions of perfection of the civil legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan», organized by the Ministry of Justice and German society on technical cooperation has been lead.
With introductory speech has acted Mr. E. Knyazev - Deputy Minister of Justice. Have taken part and have acted with reports Rakhmonkulov Kh. - Academician, Kniper Rolf - Professor of the Bremen University (Germany), Asyznov Shamil - Director of the Center of studying of legal problems, Zhuraev N. - Chief of Central Administrative Board of the legislation of the Ministry of Justice, Chanturia Lado - Professor of the Bremen University (Germany), Okulov O. - Professor, Mikki Kotaro - Representative Nagoya of University, lawyer (Japan), Yakubova Dilbahor - Head of Department of Notarial System, REGISTRY OFFICE and legal profession, Abdumutalov P. - Chief of Department of Management of the Economic Legislation. Changes and additions in Civil Code of Uzbekistan, and also questions of perfection regarding intellectual property have been discussed and analyzed.

- Seminar "Legal protection of objects of intellectual property and their role in development of economy of region" in Nukus
On August 19, 2008 in Nukus is held by the State Patent Office and Ministerial Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan Seminar "Legal protection of objects of intellectual property and their role in development of economy of region". At seminar was taken up questions of legislative basis of granting legal protection to IP objects in the Republic of Uzbekistan, their commercialization and value in development of small and medium business. The information on publishing of SPO is given and the exhibition of information-methodical publications of the SPO is organized.

- "Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on modification and additions in the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On inventions, utility models and industrial designs"
On July 31, 2008 Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on modification and additions in the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan «On inventions, utility models and industrial designs» from July 30, 2008 ¹ZRU-164 has been published. The law provides introduction of system of postponed examination of inventions, opportunity of renewal of the patent for the invention, utility model, industrial design, acceleration of introduction in a civil turn of objects of the industrial property and a number of other changes and additions.
The system of postponed examination provides the publication of data on the new development declared as inventions which are carried out before examination on conformity to conditions of patentability, and scientific and technical examination in substance begins only after filing by the applicant of the corresponding petition.
The accepted changes and additions in the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan will allow informing operatively the public on the newest developments, creating more flexible conditions for development of business, including small business, and promoting preservation of balance of patent owner’s interests and the third parties at lawful use of objects of the industrial property.

- Gold medal «WIPO Award for Outstanding Inventor»
The World Intellectual Property Organization for outstanding contribution in inventive activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan has awarded Mr. Melkumov Alexander Nikolayevich, General Director of Open Joint-Stock Company "SOVPLASTITAL" - with the WIPO Gold Medal «WIPO Award for Outstanding Inventor» which presentation took place on July 22, 2008 in the State Patent Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
